Spike Heels: Script Analysis Project

Oh. Edward told you that; that’s where you got that. He is so awful. Ever since I dumped him he’s been telling everybody I’m some kind of vampire. He thinks it’s witty.
— Lydia, Spike Heels

The Beginning Bits

Georgie lives upstairs. Andrew lives downstairs. They have a close friendship recently moving to budding romance, intimacy even.

Andrew is dating Lydia. Georgie has heard many stories about Lydia, described as Dracula by their mutual friend, Edward. Lydia has only heard Georgie’s heels clicking and clacking through the ceiling.

These women have been kept apart during all of Andrew and Lydia’s relationship. These women have been kept apart all while Georgie lives upstairs. Only told stories of each other. What happens when these women meet for the first time and have to decide for themselves if they need another.

Have a listen to the first readthrough and then how Andrea (Lydia) and Shae (Georgie) test out the initial objectives.

The Middle Bit

What keeps these women in the room? It’s obvious they clash, yet Georgie offers Lydia a drink to stay. Georgie keeps testing and Lydia keeps passing.

Did Lydia come just to tell Georgie off? She already did that. Did she come to prove that she knows Georgie and Andrew are having sex? She already did that too.

What do each of the characters need from one another? What do the need before they can leave? Before they can move one?

Continue to listen to how Andrea (Lydia) and Shae (Georgie) navigate the next few beats.

The Ending Bit

There is a connection. There is a moment of trust and vulnerability. These women find power in knowing that the men in the lives have fed false truths and distorted images of the other. Could they have been friends all this time? Do they still need the other to be the villain?

We come to a resolution. Well. At least, in this scene.

The last beats. The last readthrough. Listen to how the work has evolved since the beginning as our tablework process comes to a close.
